2012 is here and I am facing a whole new year, like everyone else, but I know this year will be my best! How to make it my best year yet, is not to sit here and *know* and hope it happens, I have to take action. You can often hear me say opportunity knocks but you don’t answer the call, well this is true for this year also. Don’t walk around with your eyes closed to all the opportunities out there, including online opportunities. A simple tweet, a post on FB or LinkedIn could lead to your continued success.

Why do we have to find someone to blame when something goes wrong in our life? Having a fall guy to blame may offer us short term relief but in the end we still have to live our life and be responsible for moving forward – agreed?

As I look over my relatively short time as a business owner I have had many chances to blame ill health, doctors, neighbors, family members, and the list goes on, when things did not go my way. In the end I worked out for myself that even though people may play a part in our downfall, we could have, should have, been aware of what could happen, might happen, and did happen.

Even if someone was responsible for the bad stuff that may have changed your life forever, how does laying blame help you? You can’t go back in time and make something not happen. Living a full life and working on ways to move on, productively and happily offers us all the chance to stand tall and be proud of ourselves.

I have been following the news recently and learning more about the WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assanage, who, I believe did not act in a manner appropriate for a human being who is supposed to care about his fellow human beings. The reason I say that is because if he cared about others he would no have put so many people’s live at risk the way he did. If he has a problem with governments or other such establishments why not deal with them and not the whole world? On the other hand certain Governments may or may not know who leaked information to this guy but may not be disclosing these facts, for whatever reason, and laying the blame solely on one person.

Blame does not heal, blame will not make things right, don’t even blame yourself, learn from your experiences and grow from them.

Ultimately a scapegoat to lay the blame on works for a short time but eventually you will be left alone, with the blame and have to admit it belongs to you also.

Riding in an elevator I decided to practise my elevator speech, what better place? Imagine this scene: Unknown guy, elevator in a large store, me. “Hi my name is Linda, would you like me to change your life forever? Would you like to enjoy the success you know you really want? I can help you do that” ( made up elevator speech just so you know). Unknown guy: ” What are you saying? What’s wrong with my life? How do you know I am not successful already?”!

When I woke up from my dream I realised I was definitely making the right decision not to use an elevator speech, in my case it really does not work. I am a bubbly, happy and motivated person and first and foremost I want to get to know you before I presume to tell you how my products or services can help you.

What are your thoughts on the wonderful elevator speech?

How would you cope if you woke up one morning and your life had changed forever? One day I woke up and whilst I was in the shower I felt a lump in my left breast, I felt it again, and just to make sure I felt it one more time. I dried myself with a soft towel and continued to feel for the lump I had just discovered, told my husband about it and he suggested going to see my family doctor. I did just that, and my family doctor sent me to a surgeon. Evidently my lump was a harmless cyst, but over the next 3 years I had mammograms regularly to keep an eye on it.

3 years later after a small car crash that caused no damage to me personally, other than to scare me, my lump started to change. It became slightly larger and was tender to touch, my instincts kicked in so I asked my surgeon what his thoughts were. He told me in no uncertain terms that he was 99% that the lump was not malignant. I told him in no uncertain terms that I wanted a biopsy, and that my instincts were very strong.

A biopsy was performed and on Devils night, 30th October, 1997 I returned to the surgeons office with my 10 year old daughter for my results.

Hey, here I am again, LindaOJ. Life, well we all have one, hopefully, but it is what we make it! Joking aside, I truly believe we can achieve anything we want in this life we are given. One of the reasons I became a professional speaker was because I love helping people and I knew I could encourage anyone who heard my story to know that they could get through their challenges, if I did it so could they.

Obviously, there are certain types of people who believe that whatever happens they have no control over and that their life is rubbish because they are unlucky. No! That is so not true. When challenges enter our lives, whatever they may be, we can use them as a learning experience. We take those challenges and we turn them around. How do we do that?

Let’s use me as an example: After arriving in Canada with husband and children it became clear I needed a job to earn money and I felt I had no skill set. I scoured the newspapers thus helping myself find a job I could do. I then attended an interview, filled out a form, and accepted a job as a salesperson. At one point I felt I could not do the job and almost turned it down. A friend passed on so me words of wisdom: How do you know you can’t do something, unless you try?

I stayed at the job for 5 years, I helped myself, I earned money which helped in a small way the massive financial challenges I was experiencing. I turned my challenge around and moved on with my life. Obviously there is more to the story but my point is, when a challenge enters our life there is always something we can do to move on, if we want to. Taking some simple steps to help ourselves is a choice we all have.
